Not all cement is created equal. The cement you use for laying your foundation shouldn't be the same cement you use for plastering your walls. In this guide, our structural engineers explain the difference between OPC and PPC, and which brands are the most reliable in Hyderabad.
In residential construction, you will encounter two main types of cement: Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC).
OPC is fast-setting and achieves high strength very quickly. It is generally available in three grades: 33, 43, and 53. Today, OPC 53 Grade is the industry standard for critical structural work.
PPC contains fly ash (pozzolana), which makes the concrete denser, more workable, and highly resistant to water and chemical attacks. It sets slower than OPC but achieves the same ultimate strength over time.
Hyderabad has access to excellent cement manufacturers. Here are the top tier brands we recommend:
At Indek Infra, we do not use a "one size fits all" approach. We strictly use Premium Grade 53 OPC (like UltraTech or Dalmia) for all your foundation, columns, and slabs to guarantee our 10-year structural warranty. For brickwork and plastering, we switch to high-quality PPC to ensure a smooth, crack-free, and damp-proof finish.
Calculate your construction costEven if you buy the most expensive UltraTech 53 Grade cement, it will fail if it is not cured correctly. Cement requires water to trigger the chemical reaction that hardens it. Structural slabs must be ponded with water for at least 14 to 21 days. If a local contractor rushes this process, the concrete will be fundamentally weak.
