Steel is the skeleton of your home. It provides the tensile strength that concrete lacks. In Hyderabad, choosing the right Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel brand and grade (Fe500D or Fe550D) is the most critical structural decision you will make. Here is how our structural engineers break it down.
The biggest distinction in the market is between Primary and Secondary manufacturers.
The undisputed market leader in India. Tata Tiscon offers exceptional quality control, perfect rib patterns for concrete bonding, and high ductility (the 'D' in Fe500D). It commands a premium price but gives total peace of mind. We use Tata Tiscon in our premium turnkey packages.
A massive player offering pure steel made from iron ore. It often comes with the highest grades of purity and excellent weldability. It is priced slightly below Tata but offers comparable structural integrity.
Very popular in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is a government-owned primary producer offering robust, high-strength TMT bars that are trusted by major infrastructure projects across Hyderabad.
The number indicates the yield strength (500 N/mm²), and the 'D' stands for Ductility. High ductility means the steel can bend significantly before breaking, which is critical for absorbing seismic (earthquake) shocks.
A contractor offering a suspiciously low per-sq-ft rate is almost certainly using secondary steel. At Indek Infra, every single package includes Primary Grade Fe500D TMT Steel (Tata Tiscon, JSW, or equivalent). We never compromise on the skeleton of your home, which is why we confidently offer a 10-year structural warranty.
Calculate your construction costWhen steel arrives at your site, look for the manufacturer's stamp embossed directly onto the bar at regular intervals. It should state the brand (e.g., TATA TISCON) and the grade (e.g., Fe500D). Also, ask your engineer for the MTC (Mill Test Certificate) batch report.
