What is Curing and Why Does it Matter?
Concrete doesn't "dry" to get hard; it undergoes a chemical reaction called hydration. This reaction requires continuous moisture. If concrete dries out too quickly, the hydration stops, resulting in weak, brittle concrete plagued with shrinkage cracks. Proper curing can increase concrete strength by up to 50%.
Standard Curing Times
- RCC Roof Slab: Minimum 14 to 21 days.
- RCC Columns: Minimum 10 to 14 days.
- Brickwork: 7 to 10 days.
- Plastering: 7 to 10 days.
Best Curing Methods
Different structural elements require different curing techniques:
- Ponding (For Slabs): Small clay or mortar dams are built on the flat roof slab, and the squares are filled with water. This is the absolute best method for flat surfaces.
- Wet Gunny Bags (For Columns): Vertical columns cannot be ponded. They must be wrapped in burlap/gunny bags which are kept continuously soaked with water.
- Spraying (For Walls): Continuous spraying of water multiple times a day is used for brickwork and plastered walls.
The Indek Infra Quality Guarantee
